I made this out of spare parts from my old boats collection. The tangs on either side of the rudder were made from thin stainless steel (previous side of a Garhauer triple sheet stopper) with ¼ bolt holes. The ends of the tangs are held together by an old end toggle from a headstay turnbuckle with a clevis pin and split ring; this piece pivots wherever the pull rope directs. The 1/4 rope holder is a stainless steel vee jam cleat with a fairlead hole in the front (used # 6 ¾ wood screws). From the cockpit I can easily pull the rudder up and a quick lift of the rope and weight of the rudder jams it tight. When ready to lower it, just pull the rope straight back to unjam it, then lower and rejam. The beauty of this design is it is very simple and easy to use.
