Outboard for Precision 21

Postby TrishG24+ » Tue Apr 25, 2017 8:35 pm

I used to have a 8 hp Johnson on my 1999 P21 but it died, now Johnson (which is what has been recommended to me) only makes a 6 or 9. I think the 6 won't be enough since I go out in the ocean and sometimes need more power, but the 9 is 20 pounds heavier. Is 84 lbs too much to be hanging off the back of a P21? Previous engine was 62 lbs or so, this one is 84lbs. Anyone have any advice about what I should do ? Thanks

The outboard of choice seems to be the Tohatsu sail pro. It's a 6hp with an extra long shaft. I have a 5hp Honda I purchased before I found out about the Tohatsu. 6hp is more than enough for a 21ft boat.
